For years they have told us to drink the water, use fluoride toothpaste, rinse with fluoride, etc. By using fluoride is was supposed to prevent tooth decay and strengthen our enamel. Reports have been released by the CDC and the ADA advising that fluoride is not good for your teeth and in fact can cause severe damage.
The ADA's study found that fluoride intake during a child's first few years of life is significantly associated with fluorosis, and warned against using fluoridated water in infant formula.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) posted on their website:
"Recent evidence suggests that mixing powdered or liquid infant formula concentrate with fluoridated water on a regular basis may increase the chance of a child developing ... enamel fluorosis."
With information posted like this advising that it is not good for our infants to have fluoride on a regular basis further suggests that it would not be good for anyone on a regular basis. Some other ways fluoride is a danger to your health is the following:
- Increases lead absorption
- Disrupts synthesis of collagen
- Hyperactivity and/or lethargy
- Muscle disorders
- Brain damage, and lowered IQ
- Arthritis
- Dementia
- Bone fractures
- Lowers thyroid function
- Bone cancer (osteosarcoma)
- Inactivates 62 enzymes
- Inhibits formation of antibodies
- Genetic damage and cell death
- Increases tumor and cancer rate
- Disrupts immune system
- Damages sperm and increases infertility
While this is disturbing news there are ways to naturally protect your teeth. First we need to understand what causes tooth decay. Tooth decay is caused by acids in your mouth and it is usually created from sugar being metabolized by bacteria (Streptococcus mutans). Studies show that the number one source in the United States is high fructose corn syrup.
Here are some steps to help you protect your health and your teeth:
1. Drink distilled water adding trace minerals (distilled water is a pure form of water with no toxins or chemicals, however it also contains no minerals which contain crucial nutrients your body needs. Minerals additional help your body with PH balance by providing alkalinity.)
2. Avoid sugar and if you have sugar make sure to brush and dental floss your teeth immediately.
3. A great all natural chemical free toothpaste to use is Jason's
4. Eat more raw veggies, especially the green kind and chew chew chew.
5. Green tea is a great mouthwash and way to manage healthy gums
6. Dental floss alone can help save your teeth and gums.
