15 all natural ways to help gas and bloating

1. Peppermint tea

Peppermint is great for soothing upset tummies and easing gas pains. Its essential oil contains menthol, which has an antispasmodic effect of the smooth muscle of the digestive track. It also soothes nerves, and therefore can soothe stomachs that really feel the effect of nervousness and stress. Drink a cup after dinner to help keep things moving slowly.

You will need…

-1 bag of herbal peppermint tea
-1 cup or so of freshly boiled water

Steeping tea seems like something that’s simple enough, but there’s a proper way to go about it. We often times let the tea bag sit in the water for several minutes, then pull the bag and drink the liquid. This doesn’t allow all the goodness of the tea to infuse thoroughly, and we’re shorting ourselves a good chunk of the benefits. After you boil your water, pour it over the tea bag in a mug, and then cover the mug (a plate works fine.) Let it sit for a full 10-15 minutes. Remove the cover and take out the tea bag, squeezing it to get out every last bit of the healing mixture. If it’s too hot to grab, press it against the side of the mug with a spoon. Sip, relax, and enjoy.

2. Let it out

Forever I can remember my mom telling me.. don't hold it in. She'd always say if you hold it in your gonna make your tummy mad.  I know it may sound silly but your tummy depends on your bodies ability to relieve itself.  Yes it can be embarrassing to let it out, but it is imperative to maintain health to be able to do so.   So try your best to find a quiet place to do it, but definitely do it if you need to.

3. Ginger tames

Ginger makes a great tea, it's great mixed in with your recipes and it has an amazing way to tame and calm your nausea, indigestion, or other tummy upsets.  It is capable of performing its wonders because of several different chemical components it possesses. Two chemicals-gingerols and shgaols- relax the intestinal track and ease any inflammation, while the root in its entirety act as a carminative-that is it prevents the formation of excess gas, or helps expel it.

You will need…

-1 fresh gingerroot
-A grater (optional)
-1 cup of boiling water, if making tea
-Lemon and honey (optional)

There are several ways to make gingerroot tea but for gas, we liked this one. Get a medium sized piece of raw gingerroot that looks nice and fresh. Scrub it clean, much like a potato, under warm water. Slice 4-6 thin quarter sized pieces and place them in a large mug. Add a touch of honey or lemon if you like, and then pour very hot water over the slices. Don’t let it boil-turn off the kettle just before or immediately afterwards. Cover and steep for 10 minutes before enjoying. Drink a cup before or after a meal to help with digestion.
Another way to reap the benefits of ginger is to eat a teaspoon of fresh grated ginger before meals, or nibble a root throughout the day.

4. Crunch on caraway

For centuries caraway has been used to give trapped gas in the digestive track a little shove out the back door. In England from the Middle Ages onward, it has been reported to help gas “caused by wind trapped in the body.” Of course air is only part of it but, if you find yourself puffing up from too much trapped gas, munching on a small handful of caraway seeds straight, or caraway crackers if the taste is too strong, might help.

You will need…

-a pinch of caraway seeds OR several caraway crackers
When you feel bloated and you’re unable to pass gas, eat a pinch of caraway seeds or a few caraway crackers. If you suffer from regular bloating due to gas, try eating a pinch every morning until you feel you no longer need to.

5. Drink chamomile tea

If you like the calming effect of chamomile over peppermint a cup of tea may be the way to go. In Germany,  they call chamomile alles zutraut which translates to “capable of anything,” because it is so useful. Antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and just plain relaxing, chamomile can help with gas due to indigestion as well as heartburn, whereas peppermint is better for gas caused solely by indigestion.

You will need…

-1 bag of chamomile tea
-1 cup or so of freshly boiled water
-honey or lemon juice (optional)

Boil approximately 1 cup of water and pour over tea bag. Cover the mug, and let the tea steep for a full 10-15 minutes. Squeeze the bag to get out all the last bits of goodness, and add a bit of honey and lemon if you like. Avoid milk, which tends to trigger gas.

6. Eat pumpkin

Gas is usually caused by improper digestion and nutrition.   Fiber is hard for us to digest, so it passes through our gut in bulk, especially when one does not chew properly. When food does not break down in the small intestine, it goes into the large intestine where natural bacteria feasts on it. As a by-product of their munching they produce a variety of gases, which produces a whole range of problems for us. Pumpkin is helpful because it can reduce the amount of gas created. Eat along with any meal to nip your problem in the bud.

7. Activate your tummy

Activated charcoal can be a great help when you really feel like you've over done it.   Activated charcoal is porous, great at trapping chemicals and binding to toxins, which is why it is used in the case of drug overdoses and for food poisoning.   Especially helpful for holiday dinners when you might be eating items you don't normally eat, also great when you want to do a detox.  Activated charcoal is best taken in capsule form. We have found that 4 capsules is plenty in a normal situation and at times mainly during detox we have taken up to 8 at a time.  If you have any questions about activated charcoal please read the insert provided with the bottle or seek the advice of your physician.

8. Chew Chew Chew

My parents used to tell me.. chew chew chew your food.  At least 70 times before you allow it to pass to your intestines.  I never understood why this was so important.  Not only does gas form by food that has not broken down, but with each chew you are producing essential digestive enzymes and making it easier for the nutrients of your food to be absorbed into your blood stream and easier for your body to digest.

9. Drink warm or cold glass of lemon water

The key is alkalinity. Although lemons appear to be acidic once ingested they become the most alkaline food  to start your day add it to some water and drink.  This has been an age old model trick to kick starting your  metabolism while starting your body off with an a great alkaline kick.   Lemon is good for you in a number of ways, including lending a hand when it comes to easing your gas pain. The acidity in lemon stimulates the production of HCL (hydrochloric acid) which is what breaks down our food. More HCL = food breaking down more efficiently = less bloating and gas. The water flushes your system and keeps your digesting tract moving along smoothly. This mixture also works as a mighty fine way to detoxify your entire body, because the lemon helps the livers enzymes work more efficiently. This is a great daily habit to adopt.

You will need…

-3 fresh lemon wedges OR a fully squeezed lemon
-A cup of water
When you wake up in the morning, before you eat and when you have an empty stomach, warm up one cup of water or live it at room temperature.  Add your fresh lemon by squeezing the juice into the water. Give it a little stir and drink the whole glass. Repeat every morning.

10. Eat foods that can help you

Many of the foods we eat today can do more harm than good reeking havoc on our digestive systems.  Caffeine laden beverages, sugary sweets, fatty fried foods,  processed foods, dairy, grain and a number of other items claiming to be nutritious can cause gas, bloating and eventually even IBS (irrital bowel syndrome). Bad food choices can contribute to more bad bacterial growth in your tummy resulting in more opportunities for bloating, gas and other complications.  Focus on foods that are meant to help you nutritiously with 80% being alkaline and 20% acidic.  CLICK HERE FOR THE ALKALINITY CHART!. Please keep in mind that there are some vegetables like cabbage and broccoli which are known to expel gasses, however these are natural gases that eventually will come to pass leaving you feeling better overall.

11. Get your body moving

Together diet and exercise make one of the most powerful remedies for a vast number of ailments that plague us. If feeling good is something you are looking for you'll need to do a little moving everyday.  Walk, swim, yoga, sports, the gym can all go a long way when it comes to feeling good.  Active lifestyles promote a healthier digestion. Personally I have found that yoga or stretching for an hour every day can really change your life and how you feel.  Yoga is an easy way to naturally effect every organ, tissue, cell and muscle in your body and the results are amazing.

12. Anise Seed

Anise has anti-spasmodic properties and helps to relax your digestive track and any cramping you may be feeling. It is also a carminative, which is just a fancy way to say that it is known to expel pent up gas and relieve the bloating that goes with it.

13.  Enzymes

Digestive enzymes are generally produced when we chew chew chew.  When we chew our saliva produces valuable enzymes Protease, Amalyse and Lipase.  The enzymes then make there way to our stomach and are used to aid in the process of digestion.  When we eat plants especially the green leafy raw kind more enzymes are added from the vegetables; however, if we do not chew enough, if we do not eat enough raw green vegetables and if we eat too many cooked or processed foods then there is a high likelihood that you are enzyme deficient.  I discovered this to be true about myself 3 years ago when I was suffering from allergies.    There are many digestive enzymes you can look into taking. Bromelain can help your body digest proteins better or Super Enzymes are great as an all overall supplement  An enzyme supplement that I have found to be particularly helpful has been Allerase. Enzyme supplements can be found at your local health store or online at http://vitacost.com.

14.  Probiotics

There are about 1000 different bacterial species that can be found in the human gut, including microorganisms like Lactobacillus acidophilus. Each individual is host to its own subgroup of around 160 of those species, like a unique fingerprint. Humans actually have more bacterial cells than human cells - in fact, we are 90% bacteria, and only 10% human cells.

Most of these estimated 100 trillion live bacteria perform valuable functions in our gastrointestinal system, including helping to manage undesirable microorganisms and relieving occasional gas, indigestion and irregularity.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines probiotics as "live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host". Probiotics are acidophilus-type bacteria that benefit our gastrointestinal tract and aid digestion. The best on the market over the counter that I have found is "Healthy Trinity".  Personally this brand has been a life saver in our lives as well as our dogs lives.

15.  Fermented Foods

Eating fermented foods is something that our ancestors did regularly but with the modern day convenience of processed and packaged food the art of fermentation is left to the  hard core believers.  When you eat a fermented food it is like eating a food that has been partially digested.  It restores the proper balance of good bacteria in the gut.  They are a great source of enzymes that can help you with your digestion. Fermented foods can actually increase your vitamin count and aid in nutritional absorption.  Fermentation can help preserve good food for longer, it is inexpensive and full of flavor.  Go crazy make your own.

Green bean Stirfry and Pho Potatoes (Paleo, Vegan, Gluten Free, NON GMO)

Green Bean Stir fry

Ingredients for 2:

Handful of green beans cut or whole
Handful of sliced baby bellas
1/4 cup of red onions sliced or diced
1/2 handful of Cilantro
1/2 handful of Parsley
1/4 cup of sprouted lentils
1/4 cup of sprouted adzuki beans
1/4 cup of diced celery
1 tablespoon of freshly grated ginger
1 tablespoon of garlic
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
1 tablespoon red wine
1/2 of a small jalapeno pepper

In a stainless steel, cast iron, or teflon free pan add coconut oil and put on the burner on high just long enough to get the oil melted. Reduce the heat to medium and add the mushrooms and onions. Cover. Let mushrooms and onions cook on one side until slightly brown then flip to the other side. Once both sides are slightly brown add the green beans, cover and let stand for a few minutes. Flip the green beans to their other side and add the remainder of the ingredients. Cover and let stand for a few minutes. After a few minutes check your stir fry and flip when ready. Let cover and repeat as needed until veggies are at the crispness or softness as desired.

Pho Potatoes Ingredients for 2:

1 Regular size head of cauliflower
1/4 cup of butter, or coconut butter
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
1/4 cup of diced chives
1 pinch of sea salt

In a medium size sauce pan add a 1/4 cup of water and place on the burner on high. Cut the base off of the cauliflower and place it inside the sauce pan. Cover and let the water boil. With a fork test the softness of the cauliflower to determine if it is ready for the blender. If the bottom half is ready and the top is still hard flip the cauliflower, cover and let stand. Once you are able to successfully put a fork into the cauliflower with ease then remove, cut up and place in a blender. Add the remaining ingredients from the list and blend until the consistency of white fluffy potatoes. Add butter, garlic and chives as needed for taste.

The Benefits of Marshmallow Root...

Why Marshmallow Root?

For many years marshmallow plant has been used to relieve coughs, sore throats, and minor wounds.  However it is also very useful as an immune booster and in reducing calcium kidney stones.
Biological Description

Marshmallow plant or Althaea officinalis is an upright perennial from family Malvaceae. The genus name of the plant - Althaea - comes from Greek word that means ‘associated with healing’. The name is given because of the special qualities of the Mallows to soften and heal. More names of the Marshmallow: March Mallow root, White Mallow root, Althea and Cheeses. Some others are Sweet Weed, Mallards, Mauls, Mortification plant, Mortification Koot, Guimauve (French), Schloss Tea (german), and Wymote.
The plant has a fleshy taproot.  It is a perennial, thick and long, whitish-yellow outside, white and fibrous within. The stem is downy, generally die down in the autumn until the spring comes and it puts out branches again. Velvety leaves are roundish, irregularly toothed at the margin, and thick. They are soft on both sides, as have covering of stellate hairs. Marshmallow flowers are smaller than common Mallow flowers are, of a pale pink color (also paler than the Common Mallow). They are in bloom during August and September. The whole plant abounds with a mild mucilage (especially the root).

Growing
Marshmallow is a native of most countries of Europe (including central Russia south) . To be specific, it is native to Britain and occurs in most of the maritime counties in the south of England. The plant now grows in the United States (from Massachusetts to Virginia) and other countries as well.
The marshmallow plant can be found growing in salt marshes, in damp, wet meadows, by the sides of ditches, by the sea and on the banks of tidal rivers. So, it prefers moist in its growing.
It used to be cultivated always in gardens, thanks to its medicinal qualities. It raises from seed, sown in spring; needs cutting and offsets of the root.

Parts Used
The root and leaves of the plant are used medicinally. Flowers can also be used. The root is used to a greater extent than the leaves, as both fresh and dried leaves (that are used for the same conditions as the root) are considered to be weaker.

Market
The whole and cut-and-sifted root and powder are available in teas ("slimy" teas), capsules, and other formulations. Marshmallow root is more popular in America, while the leaves – more in Europe. Peeled root is considered of higher quality than root with the outer bark. The root and leaves in form of the marshmallow syrups are also available.

Action
The root as well as the leaves contain mucilage – a mucus-like substance that does not dissolve in water (mostly composed of galacturonic acid, glucuronic acid, galactose, arabinose and rhamnose). The root contains 25 – 30 percent of this substance (the leaves – only 16%). Thank to this substance the plant can swell up and become slippery when wet. It gives the root an ability to soothe irritated tissue, particularly mucous membranes, and to loosen a cough.

Other active compound in the root are different polysaccharides, L-rhamnose, D-galactose, D-galacturonic acid and D-glucuronic, as well as highly branched L-arabifurranan and trisaccharide. Also about 35 % of pectin,  l-2% of asparagines, starch, oil, sugar, phosphate of lime, glutinous matter and cellulose.

Marshmallow root has the following properties:

·  It is astringent – has a binding effect
·  Diuretic – it increases the secretion and flow of urine
·  Lithotriptic - dissolves urinary calculi (stones)
·  Emollient - soothes inflamed tissue, softens and protects the skin
·  Demulcent - soothes damaged or inflamed surfaces
·  Mucilant – the herb protects mucous membranes and inflamed tissues
· Tonic – it nourishes and refresh the entire body
· Galactogogue – Marshmallow promotes the flow of milk in breastfeeding mothers
·  Laxative – it stimulates bowel movements
·  Vulnerary – gives additional help in healing of wounds by protecting against infection and stimulating cell growth
·  Nutritive – assists in the process of assimilating food and nourishes the body

Health Benefits
Its abundance of mucilage makes Marshmallow an excellent demulcent and emollient – these properties make it useful in inflammation and irritation of the alimentary canal, and of the urinary and respiratory organs. Decoctions of the plant (especially of the root) are excellent in painful complaints of the urinary organs, exerting a relaxing effect upon the passages. Powdered root boiled in milk is recommended in hemorrhage from the urinary organs and in dysentery.

The decoctions are also effective in curing bruises, sprains or any ache in the muscles, burns and inflammations. Good for any localized irritations, abscesses, different injuries. Marshmallow helps to minimize skin inflammatory processes, thus improving wound healing processes.
Boiled in wine or milk, Marshmallow will relieve diseases of the chest, it is a nice remedy for coughs, bronchitis, and whooping-cough (in the form of syrups it is available and popular in children treatment). It relieves local irritation and soothes irritated mucous membranes in sore throat accompanied by dry cough; slows down lung congestion in sore throat with dry cough, and relieve mild inflammation of the mucous membranes of the digestive tract.

Marshmallow mildly stimulates the immune system at cellular level.

Ointments of the root may help in case of varicose veins.

The usage of Marshmallow is helpful (though has not been substantiated by human pharmalogical studies) in case of asthma, Crohn's disease, Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastritis and others.
It is recommended to use Marshmallow after consulting the doctor, it is considered to be safe (there are no side effects reported).

Tea Tree Oil and Poison Ivy

Have you ever had poison ivy?  Do you have it now?   That itchy scratchy horrible rash.  Have you tried all of those store bought creams that claim they'll make it go away and they still aren't working?  Just like with any disorder attacking the body if you consider both an internal and external solution you can help your body eradicate the issue quicker and in a more natural way.    Thru my own experiences and others we have learned that when you boost your immune system thru nutrition, remove anything that may impair your bodies ability to function at it's fullest capacity and focus on the issue at hand... true healing happens quickly.  Here are some suggestions on what has worked for others with poison ivy:

Internal Suggestions:

Avoid dairy, grain, processed foods and sugar (click the link for suggestions) - this will help your body reduce any inflammation response while your body tries to help itself heal from the attack of the poison ivy

Take nettles (2 capsules in the am - 2 capsules mid-day and 2 capsules  in the evening)
Ironically stinging nettles once flash heated becomes a natural anti-histamine and is a green food so it can help boost your immune system.   It is a slow-acting nutritive herb that gently cleanses the body of metabolic wastes... wastes that could be contributing the disorder you are experiencing. It's loaded with iron and vitamin C and it “promotes the process of protein transanimation in the liver, effectively utilizing digested proteins, while simultaneously preventing them from being discharged through the body as waste products.  A study conducted by the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon found positive evidence of freeze-dried nettle leaf for treating hay fever, asthma, seasonal allergies, and hives.  Nettles has many health benefits if you'd like to know more about Nettles click here.

Take Colloidal Silver -Liquid extract... directly (follow directions on bottle or double up until the issues have subsided)
Colloidal silver has shown to be effective in cases of microbial infection. Dr. Henry Crooks found that "Silver in the colloidal state is highly germicidal, quite harmless to humans and absolutely non-toxic. Rather than in a chemical compound, the silver in the colloidal state may be applied in a much more concentrated form, with correspondingly better results. All virus, fungus, bacterium, streptococcus, staphylococcus, and other pathogenic organisms have shown to be killed in three or four minutes upon contact. Taking Colloidal Silver can help your body fight off any unwanted germs while allowing your body and immune system to get stronger while it is reducing the effects of poison ivy.

External Suggestions:

  1. Combine 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil with 1/8 cup of almond oil in a small bowl and mix thoroughly. You can also use avocado oil or cold-pressed olive oil in place of almond oil.
  2. Wash the affected area thoroughly using soap and warm water and then pat dry with a clean towel
  3. Dip a clean cotton ball into the tea tree oil mixture to moisten it, and then apply it directly to your skin. Do not cover the area with bandages or tight clothing; allow it to air dry for the best results. Repeat the application daily to reduce the pain and itching associated with poison ivy and help speed up the healing process.
Additionally, Colloidal Silver -
Colloidal silver makes an excellent topical application for scrapes, wounds, cuts and sores, acting as an antiseptic to destroy bacteria.
Possibly one of the most important medical roles for colloidal silver is it's ability to destroy deadly pathogens like methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, the flesh-eating super bug. The MRSA cure was discovered during research in the 1970s at Syracuse University by Robert O. Becker and has shown to be very effective with poison ivy and other skin issues.

A great way to build your immune system while saving your throat

Boost your immune system while protecting your thoat.

A few months back I stumbled upon this amazing product Superior Vocal Health called "throat saver".  I started using it right about the time seasonal allergy irritants filled the air.  For a normal Tennessean this time of year can truly be annoying, wreaking havoc on anyone's sinusses.  And if you are a singer, a speaker or regularly like to communicate with an unaffected voice this time of year  can be your nightmare.  For me I had already learned that if I avoided sugar, dairy and grain naturally inflammation will decrease increasing my bodies ability to ward off possible threats.  Of course, proper diet, plenty of sleep, water and exercise are crucial for a healthy immune system. However, by adding this spray into my life I immediately noticed that it helped me stay well during some particularly challenged times and helped my performance by leaps and bounds.  Since I began using the spray I feel a new strength and confidence has been created.  I now make it a point to use the spray daily and am completely excited about the results.

HERE ARE SOME HEALTH BENEFITS:
Echinacea and Goldenseal for  Vocal Health
Echinacea is considered one of nature’s most useful herbs. Echinacea has such powerful antibiotic effects that it is often prescribed as an ongoing remedy to boost and support the immune system by helping to rid the body of toxins. It can also work wonders for a sore throat or any mouth, gum or throat issue when applied directly to the affected area or when used as a gargle.

Goldenseal has been called a “miracle herb” because of its total healing effect. Powder or extract is generally considered to be more effective than tea.  For upper respiratory infections and boosting the immune system, it should be used when infection has already set in and the mucus is yellow or greenish. Goldenseal is very effective when used for tonsillitis and other difficult throat troubles.

Note:  Most herbalists do not recommend taking Goldenseal for more than a week at a time because it can reduce the absorption of the B vitamins. If you do take Goldenseal, it is recommended to allow at least two weeks in between dosages. Do not use if pregnant, as it may stimulate the uterus. If you experience diarrhea and nausea, stop taking immediately. If you have any heart disease or hypertension, do not take Goldenseal as it can stimulate the heart muscle thus increasing blood pressure.

Garlic is one of the most powerful herbs known for fighting infection and bolstering the immune system, especially when it comes to infections of the throat. Garlic is a natural antibiotic; however, it does not destroy the body’s natural flora in the intestine and colon. In fact, it is praised for its digestion benefits. It is a serious immune booster. When used as a detoxifier, garlic rejuvenates the entire system and purges the body of unwanted debris.  If you feel some type of sickness or sore throat coming on, chop up one or two cloves of garlic into small pieces. Chew the pieces slowly until they are like liquid. Make sure you chew thoroughly, allowing the juice to coat and sit in your throat and mouth for at least two minutes then swallow. Chewing is very important because the antibiotic healing element in garlic, allicin, is only activated when it is crushed. Once allicin enters the stomach, it begins to heal your entire body. Chewing garlic may stop the infection altogether or stop it from getting worse.

Propolis has antibiotic and anti-microbial properties. Because propolis is high in the vitamin B complex vitamins, has significant amounts of vitamin C, and contains vitamin E, it naturally boosts the immune system. High levels of antioxidants are also found in propolis and these also give our natural immune system functions a boost, as well as doing the same for the bees! Because of its ability to enhance the function of the immune system, Propolis is a great treatment for cold and flu symptoms and even food poisoning.  Anti-Inflammatory-Taken internally, it can also reduce the damaging effects of inflammation in the body. The antiviral properties of bee propolis are also what make it so effective in treating colds and the flu. Research has shown propolis be effective in providing allergy relief.

Slippery Elm Bark can sooth stomach problems, facilitat healing, eliminate inflammation and in general can be a tremendous healing herb.  It can neutralize excessive acidity in the stomach, heal and repair damaged internal and external tissue, neutralize noxious stomach gases and calm an upset stomach.

Ginger root can contain up to eighteen amino acids in addition to a wide array of vitamins, chemicals, and minerals. For this reason, ginger is beneficial and five of the many nutrients found in ginger: amino acids (both essential and nonessential), calcium (necessary for reduced cholesterol levels and proper blood clotting as well as strong bones), magnesium (crucial for the heart, nerves, and muscles), essential fatty acids (both omega 3 and omega and iron can play a key role in immunity.

Nettle leaf has been examined by some of the world’s leading research institutions and found to have many powerful, positive benefits.  The plant is comprised mainly of complex sugars and lectins. Nettle contains prostaglandins which have properties that support resistance to inflammation. Nettle leaf also contains high levels of protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, and beta-carotene and high amounts of the vitamins A, C, D, and

Thyme is primarily an antiseptic and can be good for those suffering from a sore throat or cold and is good for reducing inflammation in the respiratory system. It is a natural expectorant, clearing congestion from the airways.

Hyssop is a healing herb that dates back to Biblical times. This herb can be used to treat various lung problems like coughs, colds and, asthma.  It can also be useful in loosening the phlegm in the lungs. For ages it has been used for treating sore throat. It is an excellent for fevers. Hyssop causes perspiration and purges the toxins from body and also fever.  It can regulate blood and improves the blood.  This herb can soothe the lining of the stomach and can be helpful in treating all stomach disorders.

Aloe Vera can be excellent at regulating the immune system (an immunomodulator). This means it can both stimulate the immune response for those with weakened immune systems either from exisiting conditions or post-illness fatigue.

EATING OUT:
Eating out can be a challenge; however, if you ask the waiter to let you know what on the menu is Gluten Free and Dairy Free you'll be given the better choices of what will work with this plan

WORD OF CAUTION:
This plan is not for everyone and the first thing you should try is to implement the items that you know you'll be able to handle.  Take one step at a time, you do not need to change everything completely and I have found that the best results have come from those who took their time to determine what would work for them.  So for the first month try focusing on gradually introducing a plan like this into your life.  As you grow comfortable with the change and you find what really makes you feel better add something new.  It took me realistically 5 years to adopt the above plan, now I'll never go back.

Remember to always look at the sugar content in items as well.  One of the most overlooked ingredient in our diet is sugar, not just what we see on the back of a label but what our body actually turns into sugar. (the best substitute for sugar is STEVIA, others that are on the ok but not the best list are Coconut Sugar / Raw Honey / Beets.  Absolutely avoid Corn Syrup / Cane Sugar / Aspartame / Splenda / Xylitol / Agave and any other fabricated or manufactured sweetener they all come with their own reason for avoiding and should be thought of as toxin to the body.)

Yes we need good sugars but if there is any lesson I personally learned is that if I went for my cheat items too much I would most definitely feel the pain of it the next day.  My biggest lesson was with pasta.  I love the gluten free pasta but did not realize how this would effect my body.  Now that I have made the full switch to the above diet I am feeling better than ever, I've reversed my diabetes, I don't feel my endometriosis pain anymore, my chronic fatigue is gone, no more allergies and if I get a headache it's generally because I ate something on my cheat list.

If you'd like more resources on others who have designed programs similar, research studies, etc.. please let me know.. there are many now.  My best advice is to make it your own. Learn more about how nutrition can help your body stay well and work for you and focus on what makes you feel great.

A Journey of Healing from Ulcerative Colitis

A Note from I'M Holisitc...

So many suffer from disorder and disease, Mica has an inspiring story on how he has battled Ulcerative Colitis using alternative and natural methods and how he has won.  Whether you suffer from Ulcerative Colitis, IBS, Krohn's or other Auto Immune disorders you might find hope by reading more about Mica.

A Journey of Healing

I was challenged with Ulcerative Colitis for eight years before I discovered how to heal myself.
Over the course of those eight years I investigated countless alternative healing modalities and various types of alternative medicine, yet could never get to the root cause of my dis-ease.

I eventually began to dig a little deeper, realizing that healing wasn’t going to be a quick fix.  As I started looking at the thoughts in my mind, my ego, and the emotional patterns I was continually repeating, I began to understand why Ulcerative Colitis was manifesting in my body.  I was searching for love from outside myself.  I was searching for a deeper connection to the Source Energy that flows through everything, not understanding that it flows within myself.

Emotional healing began when I started a practice of mindful awareness.  I started to simply watch the thoughts and emotions moving through me over the course of my day, noticing when, where, and why I was having thoughts and emotions relating to self protection, making myself feel better about myself, role playing, and negative emotional reactions (anxiety, annoyance, frustration, worry, and fear).  Over the course of this process I had a powerful awakening, where I realized greater depths of my emotional and mental experience, began to feel the energy within my body and how I was directing it, and see very clearly the root of my dis-ease (maladaptive patterns of thought and behavior developed throughout my life).  Over the course of two months my symptoms went away completely, and I felt a joy, love, and peace return to my life that I had not experienced in a long time.  My path of energy healing is ongoing, however, as I continue to grow into more of who I am.

I now have a greater understanding of the interconnectedness of the body, mind, emotions, and spirit.  The process of healing extends far beyond removing physical dis-ease from the body, but rather, reflects a greater journey of growth and expansion of consciousness on the path that each one of our souls embarks upon during this lifetime.  Bringing love and compassion to ourselves during our journey is one of our greatest tools for growth and positive change.  I now offer spiritual counseling for those who are seeking this kind of energy healing.

What is Ulcerative Colitis? It is an auto immune disease where the immune system continually attacks the intestinal lining of the digestive tract. The symptoms of ulcerative colitis are intestinal bleeding, diarrhea, cramping, weakness, fatigue, and depression.  What causes Colitis? Western medicine does not know the cause or have a cure for Ulcerative Colitis, and colitis treatment involves daily doses of medication to suppress inflammation in the digestive tract.  The symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis were quite challenging to live with and limited the enjoyment of my life for 8 years.

There are so many natural remedies for colitis, and natural remedies for healing in general, that it can be overwhelming to know where to start.  I tried acupuncture, psychotherapy, counseling, a specific colitis diet, regression therapy, meditation, herbs and vitamins, chakra healing, sound therapy, saw a spiritual counselor, and went to a Reiki master.  While many of these approaches helped, I was never able to get to the root cause of my dis-ease.

The Plot Thickens…
I eventually began to dig a little deeper, realizing that healing wasn’t going to be a quick fix.  It wasn’t until I started looking at the thoughts in my mind, my ego, and the emotional patterns I was continually repeating, that I began to understand why this dis-ease was manifesting in my body.

Healing began when I started a practice of mindful awareness. Over the course of this process I had a powerful awakening, where I realized greater depths of my emotional and mental experience, began to feel the energy within my body, and how I was directing it, and see very clearly the root of my dis-ease (maladaptive patterns of thought and behavior learned throughout my life).  Over the course of two months my symptoms went away completely, and I felt a joy, love, and peace return to my life that I had not experienced in a long time.  My path of spiritual healing is ongoing, however, as I continue to discover more of who I am, and how I want to create my life.
Holistic Healing of Mind, Body, and Emotions.
Disease happens within all layers of a person’s being.  While my healing was focused on releasing mental and emotional energy, I was also fine tuning my relationship with my body during this process as well.  The more I researched, the more I realized how important diet is.  According to Chinese medicine, poor diet, digestive pathogens, and malnutrition all contribute to almost all disease, including digestive diseases (visit the “Physical” subpage under the “Holistic Counseling” page for a Colitis diet that was a part of my healing.)

Candida overgrowth, for instance, is believed to occur in approximately 75% of Americans, many of whom are totally unaware of this imbalance in their body.  This overpopulation of yeast in the body can be responsible for the breakdown of the digestive functioning, allowing toxins into the blood stream, and ultimately contributing to a host of problems in the body.  Another possible culprit might be other foreign pathogens in the body, such as parasites.  Food allergies, as well as dairy and gluten sensitivities, all could be contributing to symptoms that fit under the umbrella of U.C., Crohns, irritable bowel syndrome, or irritable bowel disease.

In other cases, these digestive diseases are more deeply rooted in unaddressed emotional trauma being held within the cells of the body.  Often times anger, grief, and sadness are held within this part of the body, creating energy blockages, and over time, can cause dis-ease in the body.

Wether you are suffering from U.C., irritable bowel syndrome, irritable bowel disease, or Crohn’s disease, there is a systematic approach for uncovering the potential root cause of these types of imbalances.  By beginning with nutrition and lifestyle changes, and continuing into the subtler layers of mental and emotional energy flowing through the body, we can come to understand where imbalance is occuring.

The Magic Pill?

Everyone is searching for the magic pill... the magic pill to health, youth, no more aches and pains, weight loss and more.  While you can take a pill that says it will change your life the truth is the only way to really to change your life is to work on it from the inside out.   Secondly, The trouble with most pills is that their effect only lasts so long and may create other health concerns for you to fight later on in life.  Is it really worth the risk?  What if there was another way to at least try?

If you have an ache or pain most take ibuprofen, aspirin, acetaminophen... the pain is dulled or becomes non-existent generally; however, have you ever stopped to ask yourself why the pain and ache presented itself in the first place?  Obviously if you were recently injured this is your main contributor.  For many others their experience with pain is hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and so on.  This is known as a chronic pain and for many it feels like it will never go away.  For many there is no diagnosis and for others it looks like chronic fatigue, fibromyalsia, diabetes or any other number of pain causing disorders.  The truth is in the discovery.

First, If you experience chronic pain then you should ask yourself why?  How?  When?  The best way to help identify what may be contributing to your pain is to start a journal.  Write about what you eat daily, the time, portions, whether you exercised, worked, drove around in your car, read a book, sat at the computer, watched tv.. etc.  Then write about your pain.  Give your pain a 1-10 scale 1 being great 10 being the worst, build your own special code.  Note in your journal how you feel when you wake up, how you feel mid day, if anything significant chances with any of your activities, and then again before you go to sleep at night.  It is important to note any changes before, during or after your activities.  By doing this it may help you identify patterns or possible items that may be contributing to your pains.

Second, start an elimination diet.  Take the next 4 weeks to rule out foods that may be causing the pain.  Remove everything except for green vegetables, sour fruits, fish, nuts and seeds.  For the first week eat any number of combinations you like of that list at anytime during the day. Drink plenty of distilled water with added Trace Minerals - Concentrace.  In the middle of week 2 introduce one item not on your list, whichever you crave the most, document how you feel before, during and after.  Continue to drink plenty of distilled water with added Trace Minerals - Concentrace.  At the end of week 3 add another item you are craving the most, document how you feel before, during and after.  Drink plenty of distilled water with Trace Minerals - Concentrace.  You are now at the end of week 4 you decide add or take away whatever you like.  Make sure to document the before, during and after.  Drink plenty of distilled water with Trace Minerals - Concentrace.

By utilizing all of your journal activity you now have a great way to see what has been working for you.  By charting your progress each week you gain a great starting point to truly understanding what helps you understand your personal needs.  You'll know what truly makes you happy and what truly stresses you out.  From here you can determine which foods serve a purpose for you and which foods do not.  You'll be amazed at how easy it is to feel this, to understand this and to be able to now make better choices because of it.

By doing these steps you'll discover the best way to your best is just to listen to yourself.  Pay attention to which foods make you feel great.... to which ones make you feel bad.  You choose based upon the experience of knowing how things make you feel.  The trick is to pay attention.. this is where most of us fail, somewhere along the way we forgot to pay attention.  One second, one moment and life goes on, but if we don't stop to pay attention, attention will pay us.  Just be, everybody, just be.  Make sure to write about it, remember it, embrace it, accept it.  Watch how things change in your life.  Write about your life as if you were the main character of your very own movie.   Stop for a moment to pay attention with appreciation.  Your Journey... Your Journal.... You are Your own Magic Pill.
